Perumpuzha History
The Kundara Proclamation 1809
Perumpuzha is about 2 kms South East of Kundara, which is famous in history, for, it was from here that Veluthampi Dalawa of Travancore issued the famous Kundara Vilambaram in 1809. Velu Thampi Dalawa did much for the improvement of the Kollam town. He built new bazaars and invited merchants from Madras and Thirunelveli to settle here.
The Kundara Proclamation incensed the Britishers so much that they spared no effort to capture Velu Thampi. In order to avoid being captured by the Britishers, he took asylum in a nearby province. He preferred to commit suicide rather than being captured as the British army surrounded his hiding place.
